Central Park is pleased to announce Cobra Destroyer, a two-person exhibition by Cheryl Bentley and Don Edler. With works generated around themes of fantasy, both artists will exhibit new sculptural works in conjunction with drawings by Bentley.

Fantasy takes many forms, it can manifest in unfulfilled desires, imagined realities and sexual dreams. We often carry our fantasies in secret, hiding them from the world around us and even our closest friends. Sometimes we do this because our fantasies are too personal and idiosyncratic for others to understand, sometimes we do it for fear of what others will think. This exhibition aims to explore the spaces that harbor our private expressions of the self. For Bentley this is realized through highly intimate images that evoke psychic contemplations of vibrations felt through relationships. Her figures call to mind the visual imagery of Georges Bataille or Henry Darger and ask the viewer to consider their own perversions. Edler utilizes Lovecraftian approaches to science fiction and abstraction as a means of exploring imaginary realms of existence. His works utilize glyph-like structures meant to suggest distant trans-dimensional messages.

Cheryl Bentley (b. 1983) received her MFA in Studio Art from New York University in 2014 and her BA in Art Practice from University of California, Berkeley in 2009. In 2015 Bentley was nominated for the Rema Hort foundation artist grant. She has presented a solo exhibition at 80WSE Gallery, (New York) and recently presented a two-person show at Junior Projects (New York).  Bentley is represented by Junior Projects in New York and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Don Edler (b. 1988) received his MFA in Studio Art from New York University in 2014 and attended the Skowhegan School of painting and sculpture in 2012.  Edler has presented solo exhibitions at HQHQ objective (Portland) and 80WSE Gallery (New York). He has participated in group exhibitions at Reverse (Brooklyn) and Freight and Volume Gallery (New York) and The Knockdown Center (Queens). He will Premier his recent experimental documentary “The Father The Sun and The Holy Road” as part of a solo exhibition at the San Diego Institute of Art in Summer 2016. Edler lives and works in Los Angeles.
